It’s not you, it’s your Tinder profile. If you’re not having any luck with online dating apps, it’s probably because your profile sucks. According to a report by the New York Times, women swipe right on Tinder 14 percent of the time compared to 46 percent for men. The odds are stacked against you. Women are incredibly picky on apps like Tinder and are constantly being bombarded with messages from desperate guys.
There’s hope though. A few improvements on your profile will instantly give you an advantage over the average guy. Whether you’re looking for a one night stand or a girlfriend, these tips will present you in the best, most appealing way possible.
No bathroom selfies.
If you have any bathroom selfies on your profile right now, I want you to stop reading this and delete them immediately. Unless you’re a GQ model, it won’t work.
Use focused, properly cropped pictures of only you.
Go for a clear picture from at least the waist and up. Don’t use group photos or photos with other girls. Women find them tacky. Aim for at least three recent photos. Show off your interests to give women a taste of what the two of you might be doing on future dates. And don’t forget to smile for the camera.
Keep it simple, stupid.
Avoid the dreaded wall of text. Amazing pictures won’t save you from long paragraphs on your profile. Keep your bio short and simple. Name a few interests, your job or school, or what you’re looking for. Give women something to work with.
Women find funny guys attractive. Make a woman laugh and she’ll be yours forever. Try a funny quote, joke, or a self-deprecating comment or pop culture reference. Have fun with it. Keep the playfulness going in direct messages. Avoid being cheesy though. I usually have a couple close friends read my bio to make sure it’s funny but not trying too hard.
Proper grammar and spelling.
Seems obvious but a lot of guys miss this one. Poor grammar and spelling is an instant turn-off for a lot of women.
Initiate the conversation.
Women like guys who make the first move. Say more than “Hi” though. Be original. Attractive girls probably get a dozen of those boring messages a day. Which lead me to my next tip.
Take the time to actually read her profile. Use her bio to ask questions. Come up with creative questions about her interests, job, school or whatever. If she took the time to put it in her bio, it’s worth remembering and using in conversation. Don’t get to deep though. Avoid interview questions like, “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?”
Don’t use emoticons or emojis.
Show off your pets.
I admit, this tip is kind of cheating. It’s amazing what a picture with a cute cuddly dog or cat will do. Set up a pet play date if she has pets.
Have fun. That’s the point right? Don’t stress out over the girl that doesn’t reply to the message you spent an hour coming up with. That’s the beauty of dating apps and websites. If you don’t hit it off with someone, you can move on to the next one. But if you take anything away from this post let it be this: NO bathroom selfies!
